We welcomed back to the show Robert Walker to discuss his reasons for our returning to the Moon, both robotically and with humans.  Robert also talked about going to Mars and why he does not think humans on Mars are such a good idea at this time.  During the first segment of our 1 hour 43 minute program, Robert provided us with the reasons for returning to the Moon, both with robotic missions followed by human missions.  He also spoke about the need to develop a cislunar transportation system, then he spoke in favor of specific tether ideas and proposals.

Listeners asked Robert why the Moon over Mars.  Robert spent the majority of the first segment answering these questions, including some about our TRL level for both returning to the Moon and going to Mars.  Toward the end of the first segment, Robert put forth the suggestions to do LEO research using the ISS.  Don't miss what he had to say about this idea.

In the second segment, the subject of planetary protection came up as it applies to both humans returning to the Moon or going to Mars.  Robert had much to say on this issue, especially regarding humans going to the surface of Mars.

The question of commercial opportunities came up for both the Moon and Mars.  Robert suggested there were potential commercial opportunities on the Moon but not so for Mars.  Regarding Mars exploration, he suggested robots for the surface of Mars, humans orbiting Mars and doing research via telepresence.  He supported HSF to the moons of Mars, mostly to Deimos.  Some listeners asked Robert challenging questions about his position regarding human spaceflight to the surface of Mars.  Planetary protection continued to be a major theme for our guest, especially in this segment.

Robert talked about his articles that he has written on these subjects which are published at http://www.science20.com/robertinventor. His latest paper is the "Case For Moon: Humanity's Gateway To The Solar System - Open Ended Exploration With Planetary Protection At Its Heart."  He also has a Kindle book out by the same title which you can find here: https://www.amazon.com/Case-Moon-Humanitys-Exploration-Protection-ebook/dp/B01E0U0HWQ?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0.  Robert focused on one of his chapters, "Searching for a non confrontational way ahead."  Robert also repeated several times throughout the show that the Moon was our gateway to the solar system.

As the second segment of our program marched on, Robert spent more time discussing his views about humans going to Mars.  You do no want to miss this discussion.  Near the end of the show, we received two emails from B John in Sweden.  In his first email, B John, while addressing human exploration, suggested "we go hard, since it is so unlikely we will have anyone to negotiate with?"  After Robert's response, B John's second email supported very aggressive behavior toward our encountering ET life.  Robert and I did not know if B John was kidding or not but based on blog comments before this show was even archived, I suspect what B John was suggesting to be widely supported by many listening to this program.  Toward the end we also talked about missions to Europa.
