Welcome to our nearly two hour Open Lines discussion featuring many callers and emails covering a variety of topics.  Please note that in the second segment, when archiving the program, I ran into some audio issues with segments of the discussion and chose to remove them from the recording as the audio was not of sufficient quality for the archives.  You can most likely tell the areas where the bad segments were removed and I apologize for this.  It happens a few times a year with phone calls as often the call deteriorates over time or if a cell phone is being used, the user might move around and change positions/locations causing the problem.  All in all, I took out about 3 minutes of scattered audio that went south on us once I started working with the file.

After making front end announcements and suggesting a few topics for discussion, space attorney Michael Listner was our first caller.  He updated us on the work being done to bring a spaceport to Maine.  I asked Michael several questions about a Main spaceport based on location and climate.  Michael talked about it being a smallsat type of spaceport.  Kim sent in a note pointing out that Nova Scotia was also considering a spaceport.

John from Ft. Worth was the next caller wanting to talk nuclear thermal propulsion and the Russian statements about their having a nuclear powered cruise missile which might be the beginning of nuclear thermal propulsion.  We talked weapons and nuclear power, then I brought up the Navy F18 pilots and the videos being shown on news shows of strange moving objects above the oceans and elsewhere.  The Navy pilots have said that they did not move like any known aircraft they know of, modern sensors have been gathering lots of information on the movement of these objects, but I said I found it to be less than sincere that the DOD says they are not interested in the objects.  John talked about the Senate program on this subject established a few years ago by Sen. Harry Reid but suggested there might also be a very dark secret military project looking into them.  I stopped our discussion short before it escalated into a UFO discussion which I did not want to entertain on TSS.  I would welcome your comments on these objects if you have seen the videos shown on news shows, heard the pilots talk about them and others as well.  I suspect they may be our black technology being tested but of course I am just guessing.  Before John completed his call, he talked about reading "Morningstar Pass" by Victor Norgarde (Dr. John Brandenburg).  He saw the names and descriptions of several of the characters in the book as being based on real life characters that he threw out for discussion.  I suggested he post a comment for Dr. Brandenburg on the blog about his ideas and I would make sure Dr. B saw the post.  Dr. B seems pretty good at responding to blog posts so I made the assumption with John that he would reply.  So John, come on, post your character development ideas on the blog for the book and let's see what the author has to say in response.

Dr. Doug was the next caller. He wanted to talk about a research theme via email being circulated by Shaun Moss regarding the Outer Space Treaty, property rights and others.  Doug suggested some possible triggers for expediting the resolution of issues that exist because of the treaties.  Don't miss what Doug had to say during his call.  Part of what Doug talked about was the eventuality that space settlers would manage their own governance regardless of what was in the treaties.

While we did not take a break, we started the next segment with a call from Marshall who said he was still working on how to have a commercial space station following the path of the ISS.  He referenced the company Made In Space and 3D printing, suggesting that at some point 3D printing could be used for helping to bring about space solar power.  Marshall suggested space solar power would be better than nuclear power and listed some applicable possible application in support of his comment.  Listen to all of what Marshall had to say on this topic. What do you think of Marshall's ideas? Let us know by posting your ideas and comments on our blog.

David from Seattle called to reply to Marshall as he did not support his SSP ideas.  David added other comments of interest but before he signed off, he asked if we could get a guest on the show to explain Hyperdimensional Physics, a type of new physics developed by Richard Hoagland.  As I told David, I had nobody competent to bring on the show to discuss it and in the end suggested he do a web search on the topic and read the many papers that have been written on it, including those by Mr. Hoagland.  Don't miss our full discussion on this topic.  Also, this is the section of the audio file where I encountered problems and remove inaudible segments.  Again, my apologies for losing about three minutes of the discussion with David.

The next caller was Richard Easton who wanted to tell us about the 60th anniversary celebration of the Vanguard rocket.  Doug sent in an email asking if know if Kilopower was at the level for propellant production.  I mentioned that I was trying to get one of the NASA Kilopower researchers on the show.  The recent paper he wrote on the subject can be found here: https://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/20170002010.pdf.  Dr. Marc Gibson has confirmed that he will be a guest on The Space Show on Monday, May 14.

Kyle called from Duluth with questions about advanced propulsion.  Both Kim and I suggested he tune into the upcoming show with Dr. Landis.  Out last call was from Rick in Freemont.  Rick had some things to say about comments made by Marshall along with telerobotics still being a challenge.  He also spoke about Made In Space and their activities.  He said he had recently talked with people at CASIS regarding space station commerce and how to improve it.

Please post your comments/questions on TSS blog.  You can reach most of the callers and emailers through me.
