We welcomed Josh Guild, the new Executive Director of the Space Frontier Foundation, to the program to discuss the upcoming NewSpace 2017 conference to be held in San Francisco, June 27-29, 2017.  Mr. Guild explained the theme of this year's conference, Convergence, plus he gave listeners to this show a discount code to use when registering for the conference.  Please use NS17SPACESHOW when you register for a 10% discount.  Follow along with our discussion at the conference website, https://newspace.spacefrontier.org.

During our 59 minute program, Josh introduced us to this year's unique NewSpace conference and he talked about the cross discipline participation and diversity of space topics covered at this year's event.  He also said the conference would be a bit different, it would continue to be small (around 700 attendees), and provide excellent networking opportunities.  He told us that the conference would be live streamed using Facebook Livestream.  He talked about some of the differences for this year during our program.

Our guest highlighted several of the keynote speakers which you can check out at the Keynote speaker website page, https://newspace.spacefrontier.org/speakers.  We then went day by day for the three day event, highlighting many of the special panels.  Panels can be seen on the website agenda page, https://newspace.spacefrontier.org/agenda.  Josh then described some of the special features and events for this year including Quick Fire afternoon discussion which would be in the form of a type of seven minute Ted-like or Lightening Round talk.  Josh described the new Space Frontier Foundation app which is now available for the Android and Apple platforms.  This app will be able to manage all of your conference needs so do check it out and download it.  Josh then talked about the Launchpad Reception which will include a modified Exhibit Hall plus support for a deal flow environment for start-ups and VC players - all in a casual setting.  Josh said that the Launchpad reception was open to all the conference attendees.  In response to a question about lunches, he said everyone was on their own to make their own arrangements but that the area around the hotel provided lots of lunch and dining options.

Josh talked about the Awards Reception the last night of the conference as well as the processing of installing new SFF Advocates.  He then described the many SFF volunteer options for those interested.  If you are interested, you can email Josh at the address listed on the Contacts page, https://newspace.spacefrontier.org/contact.  During our conversation, I asked Josh to tell us about his favorite programming and events.  He did do this so don't miss what he said. In addition, pay attention to the speakers and special panels that Josh highlighted during our discussion.  Before our discussion ended, I asked Josh how and why he got interested in space.  His story was very interesting, especially the part played by having read the book, "The Martian."

Please post your comments/questions on The Space Show blog.  Be sure to use the discount code Josh gave us, NS17SPACESHOW, when you register for the conference.  Remember, I will be at the conference so if you are planning on attending, make sure you find me and say hello. By the way, I'm easy to find and I usually wear a Space Show logo shirt or tie.  I look just like my website photo though something seemed to have happened to my hair to cause it to lose its former brown color.
