This will help me bring better programming to the audience. We welcomed Brett Stroozas to the program to discuss the new space burial company, Elysium (http://elysiumspace.com). During the first segment of our 1 hour 29 minute program, Brett introduced us to the concept of space burial and in particular the new start-up, Elysium Space Burial. He went over their services and their marketing to both customers in the U.S. as well as Japan where cremation is the common thing. He gave us some interesting funeral industry statistics for both the U.S. and Japan and we learned that they have a Japanese language website, http://jp.elysiumspace.com. We talked about their launch services which he said would likely be with SpaceX or Orbital but in any event they only plan to use a U.S. launcher. Also, they do not at this time have plans for suborbital launches, only orbital launches and from the established launch sites. We talked about their expansion plans to BLEO services and learned of their mobile app which you can get from their website for Apple and Droid products. The company has seven employees, some of which are part time. In the second segment, I asked Brett how his company differed from the competition. He talked about the personalized services they provide plus their intended use of dedicated spacecraft. He also talked about the media and PR received by the firm in their first year of operations. Listeners asked for his process when working with a completed kit, and if their memorial services were non-denominational which they are. Blair emailed asking about their plans to use smaller launchers such as Microlaunchers. Brett said not yet but possibly down the road. Alex asked about using government launches over private mission launches. Others wanted to know more about their future plans and what countries they had their eyes as future markets. India was mentioned as one such company. When asked for their 5-7 year plan, Brett spoke about driving the costs down and launching 5-7 memorial flights per year. Near the end, a listener asked about green funerals and Pooley emails us asking about their plans for a fast decaying LEO. Also in this segment and in the conclusion, Brett offered a special deal for Space Show listeners so don't miss it. Please put comments/questions on The Space Show blog above.
