We welcomed back Elliot Pulham for a detailed discussion about space policy, the FAA and commercial space regulation, returning to the Moon, Musk, Mars and much more. During the first segment of our 85 minute program, Mr. Pulham started out with the Space Foundation letter of August 3, 2016 commenting on the "Commercial Space Regulatory Milestones" dealing with the Moon Express lunar license and the granting of a license to Virgin Galactic for SpaceShipTwo. We discussed the regulations in the context of the Outer Space Treaty and the responsibility of the launching government to regulate all space activities from its residents and citizens.
As Mr. Pulham had recently returned from China, there were lots of questions for him regarding China and their space activities. Our guest had much to say about China and space, discussions with the U.S. mostly with the State Department. Listeners had questions about China's behavior and how that might influence China and US policy. Don't miss this discussion.
Before the segment ended, we talked about the US returning to the Moon, possible Boeing plans for going to Mars and Russian challenges. Our guest was asked about China getting to the Moon before the U.S. goes back there. Don't miss his comments on this subject.
In the second segment, we started off talking about the American Space Renaissance Act before Congress. Our guest shared his thought on the Act and the likelihood of it in all its parts becoming law. Note the role The Space Foundation had in suggesting policy for many of the components of the Act.
We next talked about Mr. Musk and his Mars plans. Elliot was in Mexico and was present for the talk and Q&A. He had much to say so again, don't miss his comments. In summary, he was disappointed that there was not much technology innovation in the plan. Our guest talked quite a bit about this subject.
We then talked about national security and DOD space. The Space Foundation and Elliot are deeply involved in this segment of the space industry so our guest had much to say about it. This is a discussion you definitely want to hear. Before the show ended, we got a listener question about ITAR reform.
